Breast enlargement procedure
Breast
augmentation
(breast
enlargement) is the most popular cosmetic surgery worldwide. There
are many reasons why women choose the procedure, in majority of cases:
after loosing a sig
nificant amount
of weight some women
observe losing
a cup size; post-pregnancy and breast feeding result in lose of skin
elasticity and cup size; ageing prices causes looser skin also in the
area of
breast. To sum
up
feeling dissatisfied with the size and shape
of breasts, feeling unwomanly and sometimes without self-esteem with
current look of their breasts many women decide to undergo breast
enlargement.
Implant can be filled with saline or silicone. Saline implants have a tendency to leak and implants made of saline are harder and more perceptible. Silicone implants can be filled with liquid or cohesive gel silicone. Silicone implants are considered as safer and more durable (it is possible to chose a brand of implants which gives lifelong guarantee for their implants). There are many sizes of implants and a few shapes of them. The most popular are round or teardrop (so called anatomical) implants.
It is always a good idea to make a final decision about the size and the shape of implants together with a plastic surgeon. Well chosen implants should be invisible and perceptible as natural breasts. Breast enlargement takes about 90 minutes and is performed under general anaesthesia. During the surgery a surgeon inserts and properly places earlier chosen type of implant.
There are 3 common incisions performed: in the crease under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. From oncological point of view the best incision is the one performed under the breast as it does not harm the breast gland so in the future a women has an opportunity to breast feed.
Depending on how much skin tissue a patient has on her chest, an implant can be placed either under the muscle or under the gland.
After
the surgery a patient should stay in the clinic at least 2 nights. It
should be enough to remove drains after that time. During first week a
patient feels pain and discomfort which can be controlled by
painkillers. During first 6 weeks it is necessary to wear a special
bra. Some surgeons recommend also wearing a special band above the
breasts. Depending on the surgeon there can be soluble or dissoluble
stitches (dissoluble stitches should be removed after 12 days). In case
of office workers 1 week of work leave is recommended whereas in case
of manual workers 2 weeks of work leave are recommended. It
is normal for the swelling to take even up to a few weeks. Some
patients experience also a loss of sensitivity in their nipples, this
is temporary. Scars will be pink up to a few months, about 3 weeks
after the surgery incision should be treated with a special ointments
that help to heal the scars and make them whiten.
Each surgery caries the risks. In case of breast enlargement there is a
risk of bruising, swelling, difference in nipple sensation, bleeding,
infection or capsular contracture. All risks connected with undergoing
the surgery should be discussed with your surgeon during direct
assessment.
Breast augmentation helps woman to feel womanly again, confident, sexy
and restores lost self-esteem.
